The Good and the Evil (Part 2)
Written by Anna Chapel
If you've already read Part 1, then you know why I chose to start this blog. I'm an older woman, and no good with social media, so I figure the eyes that are meant to read this, will.
The woman that lurks outside of Lane Road is Margaret Daley. Long before most of us were thought of, she gave birth to a baby boy. No-one is quite sure what lead up to this, but her husband chose to leave her after she gave birth. According to my great-grandmother, Margaret had no quarrels with that. In fact, she blessed his decision. However, when he decided to take the baby boy with him, that's when she had a fit. She fought so hard to prevent that from happening but men had more rights back then.
There she was alone, impoverished and brokenhearted. Her ex-husband moved on and remarried a younger version of her and moved to Lane Road to begin his new life. She showed up many times to their home, pleading with them to give back her son and each time she left with another crack within her chest.
One day, Peelers, I believe that's what they called police back then, came to her to tell her that her son died. He drowned in the bath at just 1 year old. She stormed straight to Lane Road to confront her ex husband, but in his absence, his new wife answered the door, her belly as big as a ripe watermelon.
From what I'm told, Margaret left that conversation with a clear understanding that the new wife chose to get rid of Margaret's son, to make sure hers was the only heir. As a child, my great-grandmother remembers Margaret repeatedly saying, "Why didn't she just let me have him," as she paced back and forth, to no end.
Margaret had nothing else to lose. All that she held dear was gone. She sought the devil, and the devil is who she found. She gladly traded her soul in exchange for the immediate death of her ex-husband, his wife and their unborn child. According to old Newspaper clippings, they died an unknown, but brutal death. There was so much blood, they were unrecognizable. But, that wasn't enough for Margaret, before she took her own life on that very land, she asked the devil to bound her with her son forever in death.
After such a horrific tragedy, the land was auctioned for freed negro people, and that's when Mara's ancestors purchased it. Nevertheless, I reckon she still roams that land, even though she'll never get in because that family is anointed.
Now, I don't know what's going on in the afterlife, but I have a good idea of this life. And although I'm not excusing her behavior, I can't say that I don't understand it. Do you?
